A1260 with 68040 chip on it.
« on: September 21, 2005, 03:09:05 PM »
G'day Fellow Amigans,

A couple of years ago I bought an '040 accelerator off ebay.  To my suprise, the board is actually marked as a Blizzard 1260, but has a 68040 chip installed.

It even has the extra solder pads that should be on a 68060 chip.

Are these boards common?  Does anybody know the history?  And more importantly, can I just solder a 68060 in place of the '040 and have myself a real quick miggy?

This is why I love this platform :)

yes they are common.

They used the same PCB, for both 040 and 060 version.

About the upgrade . . . yes you can do it. The problem is desolder the
040 :-( not an easy task, if your not a tech.

Every Blizzard 1240/1260.

Why do two board designs when single one does it?

Not quite. You need to lower the voltage (5->3.3) and change some jumpers on the board.

Well, you needn't to be very much of a tech, more importantly, you need a special soldering iron to desolder a chip.
