Britains most stupid thief?
« on: August 20, 2005, 08:41:39 PM »
Man tries to steal from a CCTV surveillance shop, story at BBC News

Reminds me of something that happened near work a couple of years back.
We had a stupid gang break into a TV repair shop, not only was everything they'd taken broken waiting for repair or unrepairable, but the getaway car they stole from a garage forecourt was waiting to have its head gasket fixed and struggled to reach 30mph !
On schedule, and suing

And I tell you, that stupid hooded sack of pus in the CCTV picture looks like a detriment to the gene pool, a Chav deluxe.

There is one other incident that always makes me smile when I remember it. I can't recall all the details (where, when, who exactly) but there was a thief who rode his motorcycle between two stationary columns of cars waiting at the traffic lights. He saw a black plastic bag on the passenger seat of a Merc and reached through the open window and grabbed it. He then sped off, grinning over his shoulder at the helpless motorist.
Trouble is, the contents of the bag was several large dog turds that the elderly lady in the Merc was about to dispose of at the municipal dump

Here's something else I like (don't know if it is true):

A Charlotte, NC, lawyer purchased a box of twenty-four very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against fire among other things.

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires." The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued ... and won!

In delivering the ruling the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The Judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be
"unacceptable fire," and was obligated to pay the claim.  Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000.00 to the lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars lost in the "fires."

NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24-counts of ARSON!!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was
sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000.00 fine.

Regrettably, the story is not true: see this link. But it sure made me laugh :-).
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.
