gvp A500 side car with scsi card reader

Hey all,
Before anyone gasps and falls out of their chair because i cut the plastic on the gvp sidecar, dont! this is not pristine drive. The holei cut has been done nicely also,no hatchet job here!:hammer:
I just finished a hack to make a gvp imapct series II A500 side car more useful and have everything internal. I have installed a pcd-50b inside with the pcmcia to cf adapter and cut a hole in the back of the gvp so i can have a hot swappable cf to move files. There is a cf installed in the pcd-50b scsi card reader slot internally that i use as a boot drive. I have also added a SD card inside. there is room for the smart media also, but it is not installed at the moment. the sony mem stik will not fit without clearance on some plastic inside. it is a tight fit but works beautifully and the gvp can boot off any card in the slots using the early startup menu.

To make this fit meant removing the fan(thats ok,the gvp and card reader both run cool enough). I had to make clearance for the pcmcia to cf adapter on the long plastic stud coming down from the cover.

Using standoffs to bolt the pcd-50b to the metal plate, the card reader sits literally against the top of the gvp plastic cover. there is just enough room for it all!

It is all a tight fit but works perfectly. i also set it up so it is powered off the A500 directly,so no extra power supply. 8Mb ram is installed.

Moving files to the hd is a dream with the hot swappable cf.

Here are a couple pics of the finished product.

Very nicely done.

Functional, and my opinion, does not detract at all on the overall appearance.
