A4091 vs FastLane ? Or maybe just an A2091
« on: July 04, 2005, 10:23:35 PM »
Hi. I'm thinking about getting a scsi controler for my A4000. Does anyone knows if the A4091 is as fast as the FasLane ?
I don't mind not getting the extra ram on the FL as I'm planning to get a good accelerator anyway. And because of this I'm also considering just getting an A2091 (a good accelerator will have a good scsi controler anyway). I know you might be wondering why then buy a separate scsi controler now , well a spare controler will allow me to access my HD in case my accelerator stops working, otherwise I'd be left with just the native IDE ports...
Advice please.....

Another question: I know Scsi is backwards compatible but Would the Scsi1 of the A2091 work well with the Acard Ultra160LVD to IDE adapter I have here ?

Well don't expect much from an A2091 maybe 1-1.5 MB/s. And in a ZIII machine you absolutely must have some RAM in ZII adresspace (best you have the two MB on the A2091 directly) as the A2091 does do DMA, but only in 16 bit. If there is no RAM in the 16bit ZII adresspace the controller do PIO-transfer -> some 100kb/s.

Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Ok, the 2091 is a piece of crap :) ... but the others are hard to get. I'll wait more and try to get a good deal on one, maybe ten years from now... :-D

Hello,

Before I got a WarpEngine 4040 Accelerator for my A4000 I was using the A2091 for SCSI. It was slow with the CBM ROMs but once updated to GuruROMs for the A2091 it was significantly faster, I was using 512K or RAM on the A2091 Card for improving the DMA.

you can get RAM chips for A2091 at Vesalia, but it'll cost about 20 euros just for them..

BTW. The amiga-hardware site mentions that Commodore supplied Buster11 loose with the card. Does this mean that it was soldered ? Maye there's some A4091's around with Buster11's still... 8-)
