Can you use just any SCSI CD-ROM for Amiga?
« on: June 25, 2005, 03:31:30 AM »
More specifically A600HD system. I have TWO INTERNAL PleXtor SCSI CD-ROMs that are collecting dust. It would be nice to use them for my A600HD.

1)Can I use them?

2) What cables and software/hardware do I need?

3) Where does the cable (IDE?) from A600HD come from? I mean do I need to open its case?

Thanks!

Kind Regards,
CodeHunter

Well, you'll need a SCSI HBA to use the SCSI drives, and the A600 doesn't have one. You could use the Squirrel SCSI (a PCMCIA card), but it would probably cost you less to get a buffered IDE interface and a new ATAPI CD-ROM and run the cable through a cutout in the case. You'll need a beefier and/or an external power supply in either case.

Where exactly is this cutout? Through PCMCIA slot?
Thanks!

Hi

You have to cut a new hole into your case for this purpose.

@Trev
What do you mean with "a buffered IDE interface" and where can I get one?
