Couple pf questions
« on: June 17, 2005, 06:09:29 AM »
Hi All,
Being away from Amiga scene for oh, the last 16 years, or so, I have to say that definitely my skills need some brushing up so here it goes:

(last night I received my Amiga 600HD, yay!)

1) How do you "soft" reset Amiga again?

2) Can I use PC Floppies for Amiga? (provided I format them wih Amiga of course! - Does Amiga read HD Floppies?)

3) Can I use a SVGA connector from my Amiga to my 36" Sony WEGA TV? (N.A. NTSC Amiga and TV system, I live in US)

4) Is there a PC --> Amiga Joystick/Pad conveter? I wish I could use my Logitec Dual Action PC Pad (PlayStation2 style) to my Amiga, I am using it right now with WinUAE and it is very nice.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks!
Kind Regards,
CodeHunter

1.  Press CTRL-Amiga-Amiga (Amiga keys are the A keys on either side of the spacebar)

2.  Yes.  But, to use HD floppies (as HD) you'll need a HD floppy drive.  The A600 shipped with a DD drive.

3.  Not directly.  But, you can get an external scan doubler/flicker fixer that will allow you to connect to SVGA monitors.  However, they're hard to find and expensive.  You can however get S-Video by using a converter (also hard to find, but not as expensive).  Either is better than the standard composite.

4.  Yes, but I think all that is available now is DIY stuff.  (ex. http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=hard/hack/PCGamepad2Ami.lha)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Yep, HD for Hard Drive.  You should have a 20mb  :-D  Hard Drive in there.  You can replace it with any old 2.5 inch PC hard drive as long as it's 4 gb or under.  You can use bigger, but it's a problem getting it to work under Workbench 2.0

Thanks, is there any way that I can "upgrade" my AmigaDOS to 3.0+ and also upgrade my internal HDD to larger than 4GB? (through external PCMCIA connector maybe?)
Kind Regards,

You can still use HD floppies, but they will only format as 880K DD.

You'll need 3.1 Kickstart Roms to upgrade your system past 3.0, but bear in mind that the latest operating systems, 3.5/3.9 require a 68020 at least, so you'll need a turboboard in that A600 to upgrade to that.  OS 3.1 will run fine though, and it's worth upgrading to that, as many programs or patches, etc won't run on OS 2.0 now.  You can put a larger hd in with the standard IDE controller in the A600, it's a 44 pin, so get any laptop HD and it will work fine, the problem is the filesystem.  The filesystems used by Amiga OS cannot address more than 4gb, so if you want to use a larger drive, you'll need to install a filesystem that supports it.  Check out Aminet, or check with other members here, as I don't know what filesystems you'll require, I believe it's either SFS or PFS though, so check it out.  :-)
