Do you work for Intel?
I don't see why I can't have great eye candy on my Amiga either, that was why I bought my A1200 all those years ago.
As for the A2000 case, It's a modern Amiga I want, not retro and not emulation.

I have my 1240 in my desktop A1200 with the trapdoor on.  I do have a small heatsync/fan on the 040.  I am overclocking my 040/25 to 33Mhz and it works fine.  I played Doom II Plutonia last night, it ran pretty good around 15 FPS at 320x256.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

Heh, I played Doom fine on 040/25MHz under AGA. A lot of action at once is kinda rough on it, but on the whole it's fine.

Well if the coldfire is coming out that soon, I'll just hold out. I've had my eye on that for a long while now.

As for UAE...

...ha ha ha. Good for classic games, but it is a {bleep}ization of the Amiga OS experiences. It's like what an Amiga would run like, if it was ever ported to a Celeron. :)

the Dragon 1200 Coldfire board, it goes for sale at the end of this month.

I'd be truely amazed if it even comes into existence at the end of this month as a running prototype
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

 :-D  :-D   I agree.....
UAE is fine for those who like it..(I tried it and didn't
care for it, just not a real Amiga feel) to each his own.
I like the Big Box Amigas .. A2000 & A3000, (haven't owned
an A4000 ..yet :-D , but I'm sure I will)

Elbox seemed to be pretty cofident and it was only 3 days ago I mailed them. With with chips in production on the 15th and expected release for the boards only 2 weeks later, one might be given to the idea that the boards are allready built...mmm :-P

To what extent is the coldfire compatible with existing 060 & 040 software?  I'm really tempted by it - but if I can't run the older demos/games properly it's essentially useless.

That's the problem.  Some instructions on a Coldfire are compatible with 68k, others are not.  Getting them to run old software will be tricky.  IMHO you should be happy with an '060 or upgrade to PowerPC when the ACK accelerator comes out.

I'm not worries about playing old games, just running a few apps, most of which are currently still being updated. I should be fine with a Coldfire, I wrote the company and they tell me they should be ready this month (hopefully) as well.

It seems like the V4e core used by the MFC5475 is a subset of the '060 instruction set and from our (Amigan) point of view offers comparable compatibility. :-)
