« on: March 12, 2003, 12:43:50 PM »
Does anyone know where I can find a detailed description of building an adapter allowing me to connect a 2.5 HD in my PC?

I used to have one, but I lost it when I moved.
I'd buy one if I could but the stores don't have them anymore.

Tools needed:
Soldering iron, wire cutter etc...

Parts needed:
female 44pin high density (1mm pitch) IDC RIBBON connector
male 40pin regular density (1.27mm pitch) IDC etc.
40 (or so. Only need 40 wires, but if you have more wires just rip them off afterwards...) wire high density ribbon cable (few centimeters)
male power connector (HD or floppy power to mate with a free connector on the PSU output)
2 wires for power.

Procedure:
Connect pins 10-40 of 44-pin to 40-pin using the 40-wire cable. Connect +5V from floppy/HD power connector to pins 41 and 42 on the 44-pin connector.
Connect GND from same place to pin 43 on other (also same) place.

For pinouts see

If you still don't get it, buy one for 150SEK from the nearest PC hardware dealer :-D

Edit: had typoed 44 for 40 one place :-)
