A2k won't boot
« on: June 07, 2005, 02:50:48 AM »
I picked up a non-booting A2k.
I have another A2k MoBo (running).

In the beginning I was getting a RED screen.
I ended up swapping all socketed chips between the
MoBo's. After swapping each chip I checked to make sure
the running MoBo still worked, (it did).
The non-working MoBo still doesn't work, and now I'm
not getting any screen at all.
Anyone have any ideas where to look now?

Has the battery done any damage to traces on the Motherboard?  I think Red is a rom problem, but it's been a while.  Others will chime in with the correct answer soon I'm sure!

Good Luck,
Jeff

I googled screen colors, the rom was the first chip
I tried.

Red can also be caused by IDE issues iirc... at least on the A1200 it can.

I take it, the amiga has a HDD? Or are you connecting mobo only?

This is just the MoBo, PSU, and one floppy.
I'm have no screen (just black) now after swapping
chips, (all chips worked in the other MoBo.)
I kind of suspect the floppy controller although I
have no real reason to think that.

Hi,

What version of ROM are you using?  Is the J200 jumper set correctly?  Is this one of the machines that needs pin 1 to pin 31 connected on the ROM?  Have you tried pressing down on each of the chips while powering the machine up?

Just a few things to try...

I tried a 1.3 & 2.04 roms.
I don't know what rev MoBo this is. The good board is a
rev 6.2 but I don't see anything on this one unless its
on the back (I haven't pulled the board out of its case
yet.)
I have the jumpers set the same as on the 6.2 board.
If this is an earlier rev. (probably) will the jumper
settings still be the same?
This board had a 1.3 rom in it when I got it, without
a jumper wire on any pins.

Not too sure about the a2k.. but the a500 can flash out error codes on the Caps Lock LED?

What does the power light do? Does it dim? (Im thinking a500 here... but i guess the "flagship" is the same :)

... and to add.

If the Amiga caps lock key LED blinks repeatedly at boot up, another series of error messages must be consulted:
one blink . keyboard ROM checksum error
two blinks .. RAM failure
three blinks .. watchdog timer failure
and not part of the official specification, but observed by the keeper of this page:
on the A500, multiple repeated blinks indicate low voltage on the 5-volt line from the Amiga 500 power supply.

Hi,

Was it J200 for the 1Meg Agnes on the A2000?  Check to see  if the other jumper positions are the same too.  Tried with the same power supply on both boards?  Hrmmm... No indication anywhere as to the version number - does it say B2000 or A2000 ?

:-D  Haaa ...found the problem  :-D
Someone had tried to jam an expansion card in one of the
slots and bent a pin over, it was touching the pin on the
other side,(shorting it out).

It runs great now  :-D
Oh, BTW its a rev 4.4 MoBo.
Jumpers are set the same as the 6.2 MoBo.
