Hallo again :)


I've heard that some people developed linux for Amiga. I have fev questions:

Can I play with linux on may clasic Amiga 600 with 2,5GB hard drive, 1MB chip-RAM and...nothing else :(

What is tme most recommended hardware upgrade in my situation?


Can I get aproperate software for a resonable price? (I'm just a poor Polish student... :P

Where to start?
I want to get information by myself, but I thing it's not a bad idea to ask someone wise

btw: my Linux knowledge is non-zero :) I'm running Freesco Router for some time, but I don't know enything about Amiga Linux

No, you need at least a turboboard for the A600, and for shure some more RAM.

(And then Linux on a PAL-Screen :-(  :cry:)

I think that for the price of the hardware upgrade you need in order to get your A600 Linux-compatible, you can buy a faster PC to do exactly the same job :-).

Keep in mind also that most software is written for Intel versions of Linux and might not run on 680x0 processor without endian conversions.  If it's been ported to PowerPC Linux then there would be better luck recompiling it.  Lastly from what I've heard (not verified) NetBSD support is a little better on Amiga than Linux.
