Good tbs for A500?
« on: April 01, 2005, 04:31:08 PM »
Is there any good atmospheric and addictive turnbased strategy game, like Heroes of Might and Magic or Disciples, for the A500?

Warlords, maybe. I think it's available for free from BTTR.

Storm Across Europe is fun to, though it's WWII. Centurion (Roman Empire) is great fun as well, though in a much bigger scale.

Battle Isle? Taskforce (share/freeware I got off a coverdisk once, highly addictive)? Laser Squad? UFO (perhaps that is only AGA dunno)? Hero Quest? Sabre Team?

Greetings fellow TBS fan!

I love to meet people who appreciate a good old fashioned Turn Based Strategy Game!

Some of the games mentioned so far are a bit 'heavy'
(take a long time to play or have a steep learning curve.)

Therefore I recommend u to read this
REVIEW
of a lighter fantasy monster strategic combat game that only takes a few hours to play.

If it sounds like the kind of game you are interested in
then you can dl the very old A500 version HERE

If you had an ECS Amiga with 68020 + 4 MB Ram, Hard drive and KS 3.0 ROM then I could recommend you the Ultimate A500 Version but I assume you don't have any of that.

Anyway, Have fun!  And beware the Mind Flayer!  :-)
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

Well, Warlords is the game most similar to Heroes of Might and Magic. Try to get the manual, to learn the differences between races and units, what bonuses they get in different terrain and how the battles are carried out. I'm sure someone has put it up on the web.

Well, I haven't tried warlords yet...
thanks, I'll try :-)

@ChaosLord
naah, I'm not specifically a tbs fan, more like a omnivorous fan of addictive, challenging and atmospheric games.
Unfortunately, the dl link is dead :-/

I just clicked the dl link in ur message and it works.

But u can also try this other one Ancient A500 1MB No HD No Accellerator Version

I seriously doubt u will find this game 'atmospheric', in fact if u tried to breathe it u would prob choke and die :-)

But there is no fantasy tbs more challenging or addictive than Total Chaos.

Also I am curious, don't u have an A1200?
Or at least an A3000 or something?

Many ppl find upgrading their Amiga to be 'challenging and addictive' u know?  :-D

Heh, that link works, thanks :-)
Well, I got a cd32 and a plain a1200, but my a500 has a hd and I use it the most.
For some stupid reason , I want to get the uttermost out of my almost plain a500.

Its a shame u don't have an HD on ur A1200
or a 68020 on ur A500
Because either way u could play the MUCH more atmopherical 64 color versions of the game.

The version in the link I gave u has quite possibly the worst gfx and sfx of any Amiga game ever.  In fact they are so bad that I seriously considered not answering your message.  But the gameplay rox.  Back in the olden days we used to play it all the time while trying to get thru to the local BBS. (It multitasks great).

Spellgo.....,

So what exactly do you mean by "atmospheric"?
I'm playing Doom 3 at the moment, and by gum, ya can't get more "atmospheric" den dat.

While I play, I have my +10 Blanket of Protection clutched in my lily white hands(lack of blood ya know, from clutching)!:nervous:

Oh and I totally miss my 500!

Well I also always liked Death or Glory which also runs on OCS machines.. But I think you would need some fast ram, a harddrive and a 020 to really enjoy it.

Laser Squad, it's ancient but it's amazingly playable.
