P96 on CV64
« on: March 27, 2005, 08:17:17 PM »
Tested my CV64 with my A3000 today, huge txh to Lemmink for the jumper setting info ;)
Installed Picasso 96 but I get some white flickering lines on the right side of the screen when pressing keys on my keyboard or pressing any mouse button, same thing happened with my CV64 3D on my A4000 that's why I'm running CGX on it now so the prob must be some P96 setting.
Does anyone have a cure/solution? have had P96 when I had my mediator 1200 with a Voodoo 5 card and it worked flawless.

If I was you I would reinstall everything and see if it runs right that way.  Just add another spare HD or backup your SYS: and delete files and reinstall your OS and drivers. It's really hard trying to find a problem the other way.

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

As I've had the same prob on two different machines and two different GFX cards I doubt a reinstall will help.
The problem must be a setting in P96, any setting I shouöd start testing?
I'm using a Philips 105b VGA monitor from the late 90's and 57khz is the monitor setting for it in P96

@AMIGAZ:

You can get some wierd effects if you max out the CV64:s pixelclock, especially in 24-bit screenmodes. For 24-bit screenmodes the maximum pixelclock is 50MHz which corresponds to a 800x600@75Hz vesa screenmode if I am not mistaken. The card/chip is speced to handle this, but I get some really wierd effects when moving windows etc. Just lowering the pixelclock a bit sorts the problem - when using a 800x600@72Hz vesa screenmode the problems are gone.

Generally the Trio64 chip and I assume the Virge chip too as it is based on the previous - is quite good at giving a slightly erronous picture when you start to reach its maximum pixelclock. In 8-bit screenmodes around 130MHz pixelclock, you get the problem that it seems to "forget" to draw some pixels, making for example straight vertical lines look jagged.

thx for you advice ;)

I'm using 800x600 32bit and 52.98mhz, a bit to high eh?  :-o

changed to below 50mhz so I got 72hz and the problems are gone.
You saved me day, matey!
Time to try P96 on my A4000 so I can play Freespace  :-D

@AMIGAZ:

No problem :=).

Yeah, definately. The Trio64 chip is only speced for 50MHz at 24-bit and you often need to go down to ~48MHz to make it behave correctly.

You could always use a 800x600 16-bit screenmode instead to achieve the refresh-rates you want. Admittedly if your backdrop contains large gradients areas of rather pure red, blue or green you might have to give your backdrop a touch with an image-processing software, but the responsiveness you gain is definately worth it.
