Any chance of a few more photos of the hdd and the the other processor board.

Have you tried removing the hdd to boot up without it attached.
Also we need to know what you are trying to view it on and which video output you are using to connect to the display unit.

The metal thing you see on the picture is nothing more and nothing less then a 512K memory expansion from C= (the original A501). A hard drive can be fitted internally but you should find it somewhere else! There are at least 2 IDE controllers which fit on the 68K socket, one being the ICD Ad-IDE the other (though very rare) would be a viper 520 or 530.
A harddrive needs power, if you open it up the power to the floppy drive should be split in 2 and lead to both the floppy and the harddrive.
Or maybe the floppy drive was removed all together and replaced with a hardrive? We need more pictures to be certain.

Yea thats the A500 I gave him.

Josh,

You need to make sure the RAM board is seated properly otherwise it will not boot.  It has no HD..its a floppy drive.  The silver triangle shape thing is a A501 ram expansion.  So you have 512k there, 512k on the mobo + 1.5megs on that A500 insider.  It worked fine here but like I said make sure its seated properly..thats why I gave it to you cause its a pain in the butt board. LOL

Ok.. I was confused badly.. now if I could figure out why some of my games dont work or crash then I would be happy with it. is there any way to clean the FDD drive, or run straight from the externals?

if you want to run it straight from a external you need a ...I dunno what to call it.. its a board that plugs into some chip that lets you use a external floppy to boot from (I forget which chip exactly). I have one but I'm using it.   It was made by ICD, the people who made the AdIDE internal IDE kit for the Amiga 500.

EDIT: you need a Shuffleboard..
