A2091 and M-Tec 68020i???
« on: November 25, 2004, 10:03:34 AM »
Any chance of getting these two to work together??? With the M-Tec 68020i in place any hard drive I attach will not hold its settings. Kinda disappointed really. Any ideas, advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nope... wont work :-)

I have an M-Tec 68020i 4meg accelerator in an A2000 atm, and I use a Buddha IDE for the cd-rom and harddrive. Works well with kickstart 3.1 installed, probably will even run OS3.9

The A2091 wont work because the memory read/write is on the 'other side' of the cpu socket, effectively hidden from the dma circuitry.

I beleive the Mtec does not map its memory into the zorro 2 space correctly (I could be wrong)

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example  :lol:

@Azryl

Looks like I'm gonna have one mean A1000 than :lol: I wonder how the M-Tec 68020i would go with an A500 and a GVP HD8+, knowing my luck that will fail too.

Unconfirmed if the M-Tec 68020i works inside an A1000
never been tempted to try it in mine, it works, dont play around with its insides until I have too! :-)

And I'm fairly sure the same memory access problem would affect the gvp hd8+

I tried the M-Tec 68020i in an A500 with an AlfaPower IDE controller and that combination would not work, even tho it should have regarding the IDE cpu disk drive access :-(

The Buddha(flash) / M-Tec 68020i combo works nicely inside an A2000 under KS3.1
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example  :lol:

afaik, the M-Tec 68020i was designed to work with the M-Tec AT500 ide sidecar controller.  I had this complete setup once and they did work together fine.  I don't know what exactly was done in hardware/software, but the functionality on the AT500 is limited so that it only recognizes one ide device (not good if you want to add an atapi cd-rom).  I suspect a similar accelerator limitation so that the 68020i will only work with it's sidecar relative and not others (GVP, IVS, A590, etc.).  The only solution I know of is to try and find an AT500.  Another long shot would be to try the latest v7 eproms on the A2091.

I had this 68020i too with my A500+ with scsi hd´s and after my first re-format I couldn´t use my harddisc again. It turned out that in HDtoolbox (OS 3.1) I had to take away one digit in the Mask in order to reduce the transfer speed to the computer, or somthing like that. After a save and reboot it suddenly worked again like a charm  :-)

I am currently using the M-Tec 68020i/4 Meg simm in my A500 along with the DataFlyer IDE/SCSI sidecar with no problems.
