CDTV problem :(
« on: March 02, 2005, 06:46:39 PM »
Bummer! It seems that almost all my threads are about hardware failures... :-(
I'll try to make it short.

I recently had an opportunity to buy a nice CDTV set (I mean fully-equipped: with a genuine floppy drive, keyboard, mouse and that rare black 1084S screen), all in good shape and perfect working order. It finally got to me yesterday. Apart from a ripped-off monitor's front panel flap which didn't make it during shipping (I found broken parts of flap hinges) everything seemed okay... until it came to powering it up. And thats my problem :-(.

After switching it on the screen remains black. It doesn't matter if it's connected to monitor or a tv (via composite) or which kickstart mode I select - there's no "handy", disk going into drive or a CDTV welcoming screen - nothing! It doesn't boot from a workbench disk either . However it does restart when I press Ctrl+A+A combo.
All I can do is listen to music with a cd-player and control it with that ir-pad. Oh, and the clock - it acts like a stopwatch rather than a real clock - it runs like crazy.

Could you tell me which symptoms are normal and which are not? :-?. It's my first contact with this console and I don't know how should it act when everything is ok.
Cheers...

I'm afraid it's impossible - actually I wouldn't buy it if the screen wasn't included... ;-)

Try your luck and guess the price... :-D

Oh, and c'mon, don't be like that... I really want to make it usable...
Cheers...

Sounds like the CDTV has been beat-up in shipping.  Maybe you should open it up and make sure all the chips are still properly seated?  It's like an A500 in most ways, including that little problem.  :-)

No way, that A620 is my ultimate Gunship 2000 gaming machine ;-). But stay tuned, as soon as I find myself an A630 (I need a turbo-board that's PCMCIA-friendly) it'll be for sale :-D.

How about helping me solving that CDTV problem? :-P
Cheers...

You're right! It could be that memory add-on which is connected via processor socket, maybe it's loose...?

Any things I should take special care about? I don't want to make things even worse and I know a thing about how does it look like inside... :-(
Cheers...

Should I write in Polish or English? ;)

Try to RE-SEAT (remove, and carefuly plug in) all removable chips on CDTV motherboard. Try to boot w/o momory expansion. Try to boot w/o keyboard and mouse (my first CDTV had keyboard  connector dead and it refused to bootup when the kb was plugged in).
MacBook C2D 1.83/1.25GB/80GB/Combo
AMD Sempron 3400+  AM2 1800MHz->2400MHz/1GB/80GB/DVD-RW

no Amigas ...  :-(
