Accelerators to the CDTV
« on: March 02, 2005, 08:15:44 PM »
Hi all!

Is it possible to use an accelerator from the A500 thats fits in the 68000-socket in the CDTV?
Does the AdIDE2 works correct with the CDTV? Autoboot for example, or do I have to have a boot-diskette thats mounts the harddisk from here?

Kind regards
//Peter

Technically yes, but only if you can get it to fit.  There's only a small area from the 68000 CPU to the top of the case.  So, both the AdIDE and most accellerators need some adjustment to the case lid.

But, that said I've seen a CDTV with an CSA 030 accellerator.  So, I know it's possible but case modifications are needed.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Oh, ok!
Just so I know that the CDTV will accept an accelerator!
Modification of the case doesn't bother me so much at the moment.
Will the CD-drive still auto-load the games and everything just like normally?

Only AdIDESpeed can put it and work without any type of adjustament, but if you have installed fast ram like elbox 8mb don`t work but accelerators like derringer 030 work but the design is different and you can`t put it becouse some transistors of the cdtv board are down.
the best solution is put a 68010 cpu and buy 2 or more fast memory from elbox cdtv expansions for enable the extra speed chip but the 010 work at 7,14mhz too but is much faster than the 68000 with fast ram =)

PS: i have a cdtv for if you have any question you can contact with by pmail.
EFIKA 5K2 PowerPC G2 400Mhz, MorphOS 2.7, 128MB 266MHz DDR RAM, FSB 133MHz, 500GB HDD, Radeon 9200 PRO 128MB, USB HUB x8.

I have read on the Internet that the cd-drive won't work with some accelerators (csa derrringer?) because of the high speed. Would be great if a M-tec 68020 would work perfect with the machine.
Can you get the harddrive to boot with the cdtv with the AdIDESpeed or doesn't this giving you any IDE-port?

I doubt the M-tec 020i will work because it has trouble with DMA trouble.  I never had it in a CDTV but it didn't work with my A500 + A570 CD-ROM (which is close to a CDTV).  None of the patches supplied (A590, A2091, etc. helped).

I had an Mtec, but an A590 HD controller instead, and had lots of problems with it too :(  I switched to a Trumpcard AT controller, and it worked great, and was a lot faster.  I think I got about 700k/sec!  :-o

LOOK HERE!

IIRC, it was possible to use the Viper 520CD in it, if you replaced the custom ROMs in the CDTV, with hacked ones, enabling CDTV-features in OS 3.x.
Beating the dead horse since 2002.
