RGB & StartX
« on: January 23, 2005, 01:38:07 PM »
I've recently installed NetBSD 2.0 from scratch, and I cannot start the X server (goes out of scan range).
I've installed the /etc/grfmodes file, properly modified (as it worked for the 1.6.x), and the only thing that cannot be found is a rgb definition file ( /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb ?). Is there any way to create one (the less painful way, I don't want again something like grfmodes scripting!)?

This Google-cached article probably holds the key.  If you're lucky.  (Shorthand:  Install the precompiled Xetc 'base package' if it's available, and/or just extract the rgb.txt from it without littering your slice with the rest.)

I'd kind of expect the file to reside *somewhere* in their CVS, allowing for a quick CVSweb download and no trouble, but I'm not finding it.  (Not familiar enough with X11, perhaps... Why the heck would it have to be generated on the fly, if it is?)

Searching the installation CD and the respective sets, I couldn't find anything.

I started the xserver remotely, so I could see the console output (which was trashed after an exit/quit , localy) and here's what I get:
Quote

Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb'
error opening security policy file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xserver/SecurityPolicy
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error:            Can't find file "amiga" for symbols include
>                   Exiting
>                   Abandoning symbols file "usa1"
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list!

Seems that are missing a lot of files! The ones I could check for sure (on my disk) were rgb and SecurityPolicy...

Another thing I've noticed is that there is no mk.conf template in the /etc or elsewhere (In case I tried to compile some pkgs that are not ported to the 2.0 tree yet).
