Returning after a long journey.
« on: February 18, 2005, 04:53:36 PM »
Hi all,

I'm just returning to the Amiga after a long journey in the PC world! I bought a "brand new" Amiga 1200 some weeks ago, probably because a fun computer was missing in my home! ;-)

The last Amiga 1200 I bought was in 93-94, I sold it few years later for a more powerful Amiga 4000! :-D Keep it a few years too and decide to take the PC route :-(

Now, I'm back to the classic Amiga and I have found some of the fun I had 10 years before. Heh! ;-)

Sometimes, I use WinUAE on my P4 3.20 GHz, almost everythings run very smoothly and FAST! But I don't know... it simply doesn't feel like the real thing.

I looked at the A1 with AOS4 before I bought the A1200, very interesting indeed, but I'm not ready for that, just want to mess with the old thing! ;-)

I bought some upgrades like a bigger HD, expension board with more memory, ROM 3.1 to make life more easier. I saw the famous Phase 5 Blizzard PPC 603e+ with a 060 50MHz & PPC 240MHz. I say WOW! Very impressive! And you can add a graphic board to this setup to make Workbench flying! Unfortunatly, too expensive to my taste for, let say it, outdated hardware. Well, not as plain vanilla Amiga 1200 but still outdated! ;-)

Eventually, I would like to build an an expension box with a cube case to put-in usual external devices like PC power supply & PC floppy (Catweasel?). CD-Writer & hard drives with fast IDE board! Maybe USB expension board too! But it's more a long term project and I will probably need some help! ;-)

I'm aware about the tower case you can buy to put A1200 motherboard into but I'm just not interessted. Like I said before, I just want something very compact to put the usual external devices.

Regards!

Mmmmm. If you want to go ppc.... save for a MicroAmigaOne and OS4 imho.

I have a 1200 with 060, my good old friend, plus a new A1XE G4 1000.

Welcome back :-)

Yea,

I want to also get back into the Amiga, but using my Amiga 1200 itself again since
the feeling of using one rocks.  Though I want to at least obtain a 060 accelerator.
Amiga has that feeling you will never get on any other computer.  :-D

Mine!  :-D

Quite right. Lots of money for something just to dabble in.
OTOH, I wouldn't shell out too much on expansion products. I have an A1200/030, in a DIY tower and still use it but I'm typing this on an A1.
The A1/OS4 is great but not there yet.
If it was, I wouldn't still be using my A1200.
But the 'amiga-feeling', for want of a better description, is most definitely there.
The same can be said for the Pegasos and MOS - lovely machine and OS but not there yet.
(And I'm in the huff with my Peg at the minute :-( )
