Hi all,

Probably a much talked about thing however.....

I just loaded winuae onto my PC at work. I installed everything I
needed from my AMIGA 1200 at home and then MUI and Voyager 3.0.
This is what I'm talking to you on right now!!! Yep, from my PC/AMIGA.

This PC is behind a NASTY corperate firewall and so far, I have only
been able to get Voyager to connect to it succsessfully, mind you, all
AMIGA.Org displays perfectly on this browser too! it even supports
Java script.

My question is this.

Why is this program not being used more often and developed!, it's
fantastic! and works like a charm even on Winamp site.

Are there better browsers than this on AMIGA???

I looked at Aweb
I looked at Ibrowse 2.0
Both are crap compared to this thing.


What are your thoughts??

Man Voyager even has inline name completion and double clicking
select!

IBrowse 2.0 is ANCIENT. Try out 2.3, it's very good.
Voyager development seems to be stalled however, and it seems to have some rather awkward page layout bugs.

Check out the latest versions of the browsers to see which you like best.
Ibrowse 2.3
AWeb 3.5b4
And I don't know the details on Voyager, but there are some beta releases beyond 3.0

I use IBrowse, mainly, and keep AWeb around for certain occasions.

For me Ibrowse 2.3 ite the best ...but last Aweb its good...

How many developers are involved in IBrowse ?  I Read the FAQ and it's Stefan this Stefan that ... not just a solo effort is it ?

If it is it doesn't bode well ...

I used to use AWeb 3.4 and thought IBrowse sucked. Then I got IBrowse 2.3 and spent a while configuring - getting rid of the butt-ugly default buttons and opening it on locked palette Workbench screen.

Now I never go back to AWeb (but I have it handy just in case). IBrowse doesn't have the page layout problems of AWeb and the jpeg dithering is much better.

The only thing I hate about IBrowse is the response. If you click a link by accident, then click the Stop button, it loads the whole damn page first then stops. And very un-Amiga-like it buffers commands. (reminds me of a Microsoft product)

Some Voyager (beta) versions may be faster than just about anything in some situations, and there's an outdated Flash plugin for it as well. Apart from that, I don't see how it can compete with IBrowse and AWeb in its current form. It would be interesting to see a slightly updated PPC native version though.

Well I d/led the latest version beta of voyager and it crashes and locks up frequently esp with d/l from sourceforge. it may be a newer version but 3.0 seems much more stable.

i may have to look at a newer version of aweb. i have an old purchased copy of IBrowse from os 3.5 days and it's no where near as good as voyager, perhaps it's better now. i will need to check. i love the inline name completion and picasso suport for 32 bit colour in voyager though, not to mention it's lightning fast.

thanks for all your views though, i will have to check out the competition a little closer. Hope they support the firewall/proxy now :)

If you are a registered Voyager user, use this version:

and the newer executable

but only if you are a real masochist :-D

at least theese have all the funcions on.

Obviously if you have to purchase a registration, go with IBrowse 2.3 (soon 2.4) without any esitation.

Yes, see IOSpirit to buy an upgraded keyfile and download the demo.

EDIT:

Seems that's no longer an option. Better email them to see when it'll be available again. Some dealers might have CD copies in stock; see if they'll offer an upgrade.

Netscape had the same problem where it would load forever, which was really annoying on dial-up connections if you got no carrier.  The browser would just sit there until it crashed.  Also, Firefox must load an entire page before it lets you click on an anchor, and must get a MIME header before the screen refreshes, making it impossible to reload a page if there's a timeout, so you have to completely re-type the address again.

Pretty annoying stuff.  What is it about GUI design these guys don't get?
