Koala Pad?
« on: January 11, 2005, 07:09:30 PM »
I've got a Koala Pad ... I've lost the stylus and the Commodore 64 cartridge, but they're around my house SOMEWHERE...

In mean time though, Can I use this thing with Amiga?  I can replace the stylus easy with a kids drawing pen for those drawing pads you can erase by lifting the plastic sheet up, but is there a good paint program I could use?  Was Koala Paint made for Amiga?

Thanks,

Neofree

I don't think you can use it with the Amiga, unless you wrote a driver for it. Koala paint was never written for Amiga (as far as I know anyway).

I personally use a Wacom Artpad, and I suspect you can pick one of those quite cheap secondhand. And there is a driver for the Amiga for those.

The koala pad as I remember gets it x,y coordinates much like an old atari style paddle controller does.. The problem with using it with and amiga is the resolution isn't quite that of a lo-res screen, so even if you wrote one it probably wouldn't give you enough resolution and available points to accurately draw across a high res screen.. I tried writing a program in amiga basic once upon a time to control one..

Well I guess you could at least do it at 320x200, or have some kind of scrolling effect, or use the mouse to move a window of the area you are going to edit.  Kind of surprised no one wrote software for it though.

If I rememeber, the resolution on the KoalaPad was only about 228x228. For some reason it didn't go up to the full 255 of an 8-bit value. I used to have a lot of fun with it on my Atari 800.
