How to attach heatsink to a 030?

I recently got a tower to mount my A1200 motherboard in, which is great, because now I have enough room to attach a heatsink+fan to my 030 CPU.. But I don´t know how to attach it.. I was thinking about an adhesive I saw on a website som time ago ( http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_thermal_adhesive.htm ) but on the page it clearly says one should not use it on a cpu.. I can´t use normal paste, since the heatsink would slide off, eventually.

Does anyone know how the adhesive could damage the CPU?

Perhaps someone has a better idea for attaching the heatsink, so it won´t fall off?

I've had an adhesive heatsink on my 030 for a very long time and I also have adhesive heatsinks on my csppc and I never hat any problem with it. But I don't know about this special product, it may be different from "normal" adhesives..

I would guess that they say not to use it on a CPU as it probably doesn't have as good thermal properties as their other products. But remember, they are referring to 3GHz Pentium4s and AthlonXPs now, they aren't expecting people to want to glue a heatsink to such an old old old old slow slow slow CPU like your 68030. Yours won't make nearly as much heat as a modern northbridge chip, and I don' think there's any reason to not use it on your chip. I've got some and have been thinking of putting a bigger heatsink on my 060 for a while. I also just picked up a CSPPC card that I might put bigger heatsinks on, though if I play with the PPC heatsink that may be where I'd start using paste instead of epoxy. For my AmigaOne, I'd be much more inclined to take their advice and not use the epoxy stuff.

I used some high temp superglue I picked up at
'Radio Shack'. I used it on my A3640 card to mount a
heatsinc on the CPU. I used the card for about a year
before I upgraded. It work great.

as alredy reported here, you can use those thermal adhesive without any problem with a 030.

Seen the relative high temperature of a 030, you can go for a cheaper solution:

use normal thermal paste with 4 drops of cyanolit on the 4 CPU corner.

The 4 drops has to be . . . less than a drop :-)

From the review I saw, I don't think that thermal conductance is the big problem.  Considering how much better it did than thermal tape I would imagine that it would do better than the little thermal conductive pad you find on many retail heatsinks.  I think the big problem may be weight.  Modern CPU coolers have quite a deal more heft than the kind of heatsinks this adhesive is designed for.  The adhesive might not be strong enough and even if it is, I doubt it's a good idea for the CPU itself to bear the load of the cooler

I've used Super Epoxy (från Biltema, lol) to glue my heatsink on my '030 accel. board in my A600.

Here's how I attached a heatsink to my 040/25.

1. Add thermalpaste to the CPU.
2. Press the heatsink onto the CPU and get the the paste spread nicely.
3. Remove heatsink.
4. Remove thermalpaste from the corners of the heatsink and CPU.
5. Add glue to the cleaned area.

You get the best of both worlds. The heatsink is glued firmly to the chip and there's nice thermalpaste where it needs to be witch is in the center of the CPU.

Just look for any northbridge/southbridge cooler, they all have probblem of "no holes".

I used "THERMAL TAPE" (Sekisui) solution. Yes, it SUCKS compared to any thermal paste, but you really aren't trying to cool some 3GHz monster as someone here said.

I really would AVOID any permanent GLUE. One day you'll find a better heatsink and regret gluing old one!

Why do you want a heatsink+fan on your 030? It will just make a lot of noise and add extra stress on your PSU... why... Why! WHY!!!! :-D

Does more than just hold a few sheets of paper together. Why, this amazing device, when bent into various configurations and applied logically to the task, will do the job of bolding the heat sink in place. It's removable, re useable and real cheap. They also come rubber coated in several flashy colors. So don't get all stuck together with sticky messy glues. Secure it with a hunk of wire.
