233 MHz PPC bug?
« on: December 31, 2004, 01:50:45 PM »
Hi,

I have heard that the 233 MHz PPC has a bug, and I happen to have one (CSPPC). Is it true? I cannot know myself because I do not use PPC software at all.

Thanks!

seems to be :-)

but if you doesn't use PPC apps!

Anyway its called LRBug and should be fixed with this patch:

ftp://de.aminet.net/pub/aminet/hard/misc/CSPPC233Fix.lha

There are 2 versions (PUP and WOS) but if you don't use PPC apps . . .

This bug should appeare as LR exeption with an output starting with a number different than 0.

Never happened here (even if, to be honest, i've used the 233Mhz model only few weeks)

Good luck :-)

I think that this problem is automatically fixed with the use of the latest WarpUP libraries.
Originally, it was a problem until the software fix arrived with WarpUP 5.1 Update, I believe.

Does anybody else find it strange that this bug -- basically the result of an overheating problem -- has a SOFTWARE fix? Wonder whether fitting a more powerful fan would help...

I just have an extra case fan blowing on the entire board.  I replaced the stock ppc fan with a 486 fan from Radio Shack that is powered from the hard drive power connectors.  I wanted to mount a cpu fan on the 060 but there's not much room on the board.  I was always a bit leery of running the 060 without a heatsink/fan anyway.  It definitely gets quite warm.

My CSPPC fan blew in about 2 weeks - lucky me I did notice it when I tested how the other parts of the system did thrive in the crowded desktop. Ergo: 1 replacement + 3 addon fans + vent holes in the lower front bevel...and no problems ever since until put in RBM tower.
