Was I Supposed To Post Here 1st?
« on: December 22, 2004, 10:38:29 PM »
Greetings. This actually isn't my first post here, more like the third. Sorry if I was supposed to post here first, as a way of introduction, but, my problems were rather urgent. (All solved now, thanks to the help I got here). My story with the Amiga, is, I bet, similar to a lot of others. I started out the the C=64 as my very first computer back in 1982. Soon moved up to the Amiga, and found myself, after a few years, abandoning it for the PC platform, which in my case, was an Amstrad laptop-monstrosity. From there, I went from PC to PC (mostly notebooks, in those early, pre-color days), and eventually, to where I am now. In the intervening (20 or so!) years, I've become a builder and repairer of PCs, a LAN administrator (my own network of 12+ machines), and a 'hoster' (is that a real word?) of web sites and game servers. A few months ago, on the random comment of a friend, who was remembering when we used to play Turrican and Battle Squadron, I got kind of nostalgic about this 'amazing' machine they used to call the Amiga, which, unbelievable as it seems, used to be able to do things that PCs couldn't even dream of! Fast forward to right now, I've just spent the past three months (and an obscene amount of money!) rehabbing an old A2000 I got from eBay. Finally, just today, I finished getting OS 3.9 up and running, and am now looking forward to spending many hours customizing it, and possibly messing it up, and starting over from scratch!  :-D

Hello and welcome MiAmigo.
Might I ask what country you are from?

Congratulations on coming to the AMIGA, it was and still is a tremendous computer (reliable too).

US of A. And yes, even after all those years, I always remembered how awesome the Amiga was, and how, with really tiny resources (system-wise) compared to today's monsters, how much it could do and acheive. I remember seeing my first photograph displayed on an Amiga - an amazing acheivement in the time of PC amber and green screens. I also recall seeing my first fully animated live footage, as well. All this with less than 8 mhz, HD, and no special graphics card.

For the record Amstrad made pretty sturdy computers before they went all-PC.
The CPC is very sturdy, served me 16 years of service and being knocked around as a kid
