Cyberstorm PPC
« on: December 18, 2004, 11:17:31 AM »
Hey all, Just got one of these (233/060) Anyway can someone tell me what I need to install to make it work properly, as I've tried running ADoom (68k) and it crashes the machine with a software error, and I'm pretty sure ADoom should work on an 060, I've not set up the PPC side yet, does this make a difference? Maybe this could have something to do with my Prometheus problems...

Cheers

You should use the Phase 5 install disk(s) that came with the card or download them off the net and install the card drivers (68060.library, ppc.library, etc.).  One that is done, the card should function properly (there are some test programs, etc).  I then recommend installing WarpUpv.5 or OS3.9 on top of that (better PPC support for games, PowerUP library emulation, etc.).  Adoom should work fine once the 68060 library and other files are installed.  You may need some other libraries from Aminet for the screen mode requester, etc. (read the readme file or amigaguide that comes with Adoom).  If you want to run 3D stuff (GLQuake and Quake2), you'll need to install CybergraphX4.x+/Picasso96 (commercial) and Warp3dv4.2 (aminet) and have a 3d-capable graphics card like the Voodoo, CybervisionPPC or Cybervision3D (Warp3d4.2 is the only version I could get to work with the Prometheus/Voodoo/P96 combo on the A4000).

Hey Robert, that could do it. Have yu mailed the Prommy yet? If not let's wait until you at least get the 040/060 libraries in place.

Hey Red, I've not mailed the Prom yet, I have this cyberpatcher thing and I have put the Libs into Sys:Libs

However I'm now messing around with WB3.9 and it won't let me open programs... like when I double click screenmode nothing happens, etc  :-?

Cyberpatcher? I wouldn't use that. You shuold just manually move 68040.library, 68040dummy and 68060.library.

I'm trying to think of the exact instructions, but it is escaping me.. Lemm see if I can find instructions..

I can't find it..grr Well here's close enough.

*************
Well, it seems like the latest Phase5's revision of the 680x0 libraries confused a lot of people. I received many help requests. For a correct installation follow these instructions:

Unpack the archive in RAM:
Go to Ram:libs, here you will find:
68040.library
68040dummy.library
68060.library
And some .sig files that you can ignore for the installation.
Rename the file 68040.library as 68040new.library
Rename the file 68040dummy.library as 68040.library
Copy the files 68040.library, 68040new.library and 68060.library in LIBS: over your existing Phase5's 68040.library and 68060.library.
Copy from your Install 3.0/3.1 floppy the 68040.library as 68040old.library in LIBS: (You can also find it in the CU Amiga Magazine CUCD Series)
That's it.
If you install the wrong 68040.library, your 68060 will be recognized as a 68040.DON'T WORRY! You didn't FRY anything! If you experienced such problem, just follow the previous instructions for a correct installation. Anything will go ok.

@Robert17:

You can find the latest Phase5 68060 libraries here. After downloading those, just use Redrumloa's instructions to properly install them.
