Current status of MUI, Magic64?
« on: November 29, 2004, 05:52:30 PM »
After reading today that the EaglePlayer source has just been released, I am wondering about a few other programs that haven't been updated for a while that I'd like to be open source.

Does anybody know the status of MUI or Magic64?

MUI is still shareware, and registerable.

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

That's a pity. I have a new rule that I only pay for shareware that has been updated this millenium. Even the SASG website "latest news" ends at 1998!

I'd happily pay if Stefan made some updates to MUI (like bug fixes) or at least came out with a new MFR.

MUI is being actively developed, but currently only for MorphOS.

Why only MorphOS? Is Stefan still working on it or someone else?

It would be nice if the Amiga version was free then. Why still charge for software that hasn't been updated for almost 8 years?

Because despite it's age, it's still usefull.  If you're not happy paying $25 for a good piece of software, to a worthy author, then use the demo version.

Maybe you didn't read my other post. I said "I'd happily pay if Stefan made some updates to MUI...". That means that I WOULD be happy paying $25 for a good piece of software, to a worthy author. But (and my other quote) "I have a new rule that I only pay for shareware that has been updated this millenium." Besides, I tried contacting Stefan Stuntz before to pay for MFR, but got no response.

The present tense of that statement could be misleading; certainly morphos.net says otherwise. Also, the latest CVS version of MUI 3.9 ships with OS4.

@mr_a500

Well, that's certainly your choice.  Unfortunately, that's going to leave you out of lots of Amiga software.

I think it's great that there is a functional demo version available.  I wish more authors did that.  I myself just recently registered my second copy of MUI for my new(er) A4000.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Not really. There are only 2 pieces of software left that I want, but aren't being updated (and can't contact authors) and so I haven't registered: MUI and Magic64 - hence the reason for this thread.

It doesn't say otherwise. It says Stefan has money that Genesi haven't paid him. Where does it say he stopped development for MorphOS MUI? And I know for a fact he hasn't, anyway.

As for OS4, it gets the shareware version which lacks many features. More of a backport from MOS than development. But you guys did say that ReAction was better, right? :)
