Anyone know a vendor that offers a fitting heatsink or fan combo that securely attaches to the A3640?

Sadly those fittings for the heatsink of the 040 are rare. Fortunatly the 040 are cheap these days so I personaly don't think too much about gluing a heatsink to it (thermalpaste all over, clean and putt a small amout of glue in each corner). :)

If you can find a 486 heatsink they are pretty close to an '040 heatsink.  The clips may even grab the side of the '040 (Just make sure it doesn't short the pins).

I bought a used 3640 that came with a heatsink that didn't quite fit due to some bumps on the bottom.  After grinding one of them off it fit perfectly.

I have no idea how hot it runs, but it doesn't crash in my A3000 desktop, even without a fan.  The heatsink is even small enough to fit under the drive cage without a hole.

Well... there are 2 types of heatsinks comming with the 3640, one have a fat an low sink while ther other is smaller and taller. Either will fit in an A3000 mut only the thin one will fit in an A3000 unless you mod something. Commodore didn't release the 3640 for the A3000 simply cause they didn't find it safe... users are welcome to do what they want with their machine but I'd say try create good (ehm... better) airflow in the machine and add a fan if possible (doesn't have to sit right on top of the heatsink to still do good).
