floppy drive issues
« on: November 19, 2004, 11:27:22 PM »
This may seem to be the wrong place to put this question, but it is software related.

Is there anyway to stop AmigaDOS polling the disk drive? Maybe my drive is just getting a bit cranky, but it keeps trying to query the drive while I'm in the middle of writing an adf to disk with tracktool.

Still, a replacement drive might just be the answer...

Yes, that's what it's always done.

That is normal.  If you do not want it to click get a tool on Aminet that will stop the clicking.  Noclick or such tool, it will need to be run every time you boot a disk though, usually on a WB disk.

I've been using 'NonClick' (found on Aminet) for more
than 10 years. It stops the drives from clicking and
I have never had any problems with it.
IMHO the constant clicking WILL shorten the life of
a floppy drive.
I added it to the bottom of my startup sequence. It
runs every time I boot up.
It works great.

@ Scumble

I use 'killclick' but I'm sure all these utils are the same. If you have difficulty finding one, PM me and I'll see to it that you get one.

Thanks for the information. I should be able to find such a utility, but I will contact if I have trouble :)
Not sure why I never came across such a thing years ago. It always got on my nerves...

i use more system-friendly programs to prevent drive clicking.
I used MCP, but when I bought Apollo1240 i started using patched kickstart and RemApollo - no need to reload the noclick program at every boot.
