A500 AmigaOS3.5 Success
« on: November 22, 2004, 01:08:03 AM »
Yes..... Finally got OS3.5 running on my A500 (CSA MMR 68030/68852 33mhz, GVP HD8+, 1mb Chip, 8m Fast, 2.5m 32-bit Fast). It's got 2.04 ROMs softkicked to 3.1 and it kept blowing up after the 3.5 install.

I found that the SetPatch supplied with 3.5 installs some updates then reboots.... thus erasing the softkicked roms.

Solution was to use the Setpatch40.16 that comes with OS 3.5 (as opposed to plain SetPatch), combined with RemLibrary from the emergency disk.

As I understand it, the patches that cause the trouble are for scsi.device and FFS to support volumes over 4gb, which I don't have anyways.

User review of 3.5:

Mmmmm pretty.

Nice work, is there any chance of a photo of OS 3.5 running on your Amiga 500?

It would be nice to see, or maybe even a screenshot.

YeeHAW! Another Canadian with a kick-ass Amiga 500! (I think that's three now ;-) )

I've had WB3.9 on my A500 for two years now, but found that 3.1 is MUCH better so I use that. The only advantage I can see in 3.9 (for an A500) is support for harddrives >4Gb. I solved that problem in 3.1 by taking scsi.device from 3.9 and using "loadmodule".

@mr_a500:

Well, I put 3.5 on because I bought a retail copy so I figured I should use it! It's much prettier than 3.1 but I haven't really done anything with it yet.

Congrats to you!

I recently recieved my OS 3.5 from redrumloa and got it installed on my A500/A530.

I had OS3.9 installed on a 2nd bootable drive, out of curiosity earlier in the year.

I since removed it, as it was from the Cloanto AF 6.0 CD, and decided to purchase OS3.5.

It looked pretty good with the SVGA Monitor I swiped from our PC and a ICD Flicker Fixer on Interlace mode. The wife and kids raised a riot, and so I had to return the monitor...  :griping:

When I try to view your pictures, I get "Network error: Connection refused".

Edit:
OK, today it works. Yes, that's 3.5 all right. Too bad you only have 1Mb Chip RAM. For many things even 2Mb Chip RAM gets tight.
