I would strongly advise you to get a Blizzard 1260 card and forget anything else. You will not regret it. The Blizzard/Cyberstorm line is like Mercedes-Benz of Amiga cards, while Apollo and Viper lines are more like Ford. :-)

@x56h34

Aren't you giving the Apollo/Viper boards a little to much credit here? :-)

Perhaps he means that Phase5 HW owners are pompous, selfcentred, middle-aged, balding males?  :-P.

Ratting? Hmm, if only my Jack Russell terrier was still alive, she was good at chasing down rodents.
I like Amigas

Hi,
have been using Viper1260 on my 3.9 A1200 since august 2003.
Good board, for the price.
Definitely buy it with its 64MB simm as it is not easy to find working simms for Viper, EDO won't work, only FPM.
It is stable, I did the A1200 underboard modification, desoldering 2 resistors, just in case, because I didn't notice any change.
Recently I overclocked it to 66MHz, changing quartz-adding socket.
SysSpeed says there has been an average 10% increase in speed on all tests but intuition, which decreased.
After overclock I have some problem in my net with PC, before everything was smooth, now it is slow and stucking.
I underclocked it again to its 56MHz.Net stuckiness remains.
Anyway I agree, Blizzards are better.
On Viper you can't use Blizkick, which is very useful.
Ciao

Good for you son! I recently got one, although i haven't tested it yet, as i need to install a few things from my older hard drive. I can safely say that no one should buy anything less than a Blizzard, for maximum enjoyment with Amiga! :-)

I swapped the Blizzard 1260 twice before I had a full-working and stable card. The first 1260 was stable, but I couldn't turn the card of with the '2' key and the second one crashed everytime when I use FPU or 060 specific software. I had to wait 9 months to get an working card. It was made by DCE.

In 1994 I bought a Blizzard 1230IV (Phase 5). This card crashed every time, After swapping for another card, it works very well, even today.

In 1996 I wanted to buy Blizzard 1230 SCSI kit. My first doesn't like SCSI-2 devices, only SCSI-1 devices like Apple Power CD. In the end, I have two working SCSI-kits.

I think a Viper 1260/56 is a good value of money.
