Spring tidy
« on: September 26, 2004, 02:29:36 AM »
I've given up on the A2000 as it's refusing to read disks, but otherwise appears to be fine ... thats on the back burner now ...

To cheer myself up I've done a top-to-toe on my 'nice' A500+ with a good clean and a fresh battery - and also put rust inhibitor on the shield where it's started rusting! Amazing how nice the case came up with a little soapy water :-)

Then I broke up an old laptop that died a little while back, and was surprised to find an 800Mb harddisk in it (t'was an OLD laptop!), so the A1200 was pulled out, bye bye to the 160Mb harddisk, hello to the new.  Now I have the dilemma of weather to have 8Mb of ram and link to a PC to get OS3.9 over, or notch it down to 4Mb and try to coax the Squirrel into action (probably the former as TwinExpress is about 2x CDRom speed anyway).

Tommorow will either see me trying to find all the stuff to re-install onto the A1200 (just got 3.1 & Skidmarks on it so far), or I might attack the A3000 with a screwdriver to fit some goodies I've been stockpiling.

In case anyone's wondering there's no point to this post, it's just nice to do some tinkering :-D

heh yeah its all good fun... I jsut this week pulled apart an A500 rev6A cleaned the case with some sugar soap and water. Then I noticed the 4 blank chip spaces so I jumped on Aminet and am about to fit another 512k in addition to the 2meg I added to the A590, the 40x CD-rom and new 4.3 gig harddrive which all went in this week...

before this week I never had enough ram to run the hdd properly... and never attempted to run a CD-rom on any amiga.
(I grew up with a 1 meg A1000)

point to this post = none
bonus points for first post on Amiga.org = none

Nice avatar - it's been ages since I saw the Cannonball run!

Anyway, I've tried OS3.9 on the A1200 and it's too sluggish, so I'll just bung on MagicWB and stuff it full of old games from Back2Roots ...

An A500 is nice as with all that memory it might run WHDLoad, which would allow lots of ancient games to be run from harddisk (many will run on newer machines, but the timing goes to pot!).
