Viper 520CD
« on: September 11, 2004, 12:06:33 PM »
Recently aquired a Viper 520CD turbocard without any software or manual and am now trying to figure out how to install it into my A500 1mb miggy.
There is a cable with a 2 pin connector in the other end and an adaptor which looks like it will fit in the kickstart rom socket in the other end of the cable, it also seem to fit in the CIA sockets.
Does anyone know where on my mobo I shall attach this adaptor?

If you can speak German you could get the manual from The Big Book of Amiga Hardware.

German manual

Hi,

I've just had a look inside my A500+. The wire with the adapter goes to the odd CIA (on the left). It's been working for 5 years now so I think it's correct :)

Hi, thanks alot for the info!
Does the cable then go to the left or right from the adaptor and is the CIA chip then seated on top of the adaptor?

Hi,

The adapter goes into the CIA socket, with the wire at the lower left corner. Then the CIA goes on top.

@ twiglet

Have mounted the adapter & the turboboard but don't if the 2 pin wire should be with the blk/white cable to the left or right when connected to the two pin connector on the board.
Wouldn't be fun to fry anything without even testing the board...lol!

Strange - I only have one wire (it's orange). This goes from the right pin of the connector labeled INT 2 MOBO to the adapter on the CIA. I don't know if maybe you have a different revision of the board or something?

Picture of the wire on my board here: http://twiglet.0catch.com/images/a530.jpg . Sorry for poor quality.

The link didn't work....without me signing up for some account for Gain publishing which I don't want to do since Gain will guaranteed fill my computer with spyware.
So you only have one pin then on your card? (INT 2 MOBO)
Just tried booting with the card but nothing happened, does your card rest on the CIA chip on the adaptor?

The link should work if you type the URL in - they don't seem to like hotlinking.

There are two pins on my card but only the right one is connected to anything.

There's about 2mm clearance between the card and the CIA on my setup. Make sure the board is seated well in the CPU socket and there's no bent pins or anything.

Hope you can get this card working - gave my A500 a new lease of life!

Ahh..the link worked.
Hope my card hasn't got a hacked cable or something..
Seems like my two white wires are joined together at the base of the adapter.
And my card gets bent a bit because it rests on the CIA chip which is fully seated and so is the adaptor.
Will have a try with the card in my A500+ instead after dinner.
Hopefully I can get it working, I could only dream of having a turboboard when I was young when they cost a fortune.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to enjoy 020 33mhz on my A500 since the card seem to be broken and has killed both my A500 & A500+ after trying to get it working on both of them.
Both refuse to boot now after reinstalling the original 68000CPU and the CIA chip without the adapter.
Looks like I have to find another A500+ for my GVP A530 now.
