Question about DRAM's
« on: September 02, 2004, 06:01:29 AM »
Hi all

I have found a pile of Hyundai HY534256AS-70 DRAM's, can they be used at all for any Amiga??? Any ideas/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

According to once source, they are 1Mb x 8 bit RAM, though the "256" in the part number can suggest 256k.  I don't have a data sheet handy.
Either way, if they are 20 pin devices, it's likely they'll work in the fast mem sockets of the A3000 (U850D-U857D).  It will accept either 256k or 1Mb devices.  Most 20 pin DIP memory uses the same pinouts.  And 70ns access time is more than fast enough.
Make sure you don't mix them with other memory sizes or ZIP memory.

As for A3000 chip mem, these are 256k devices.  You might have trouble with the HY534256 there.

@Castellen

Thanks for that, as for the A3000, mine is already populated with 2MB of Chip RAM and 4MB of ZIP's, I was actually thinking about trying these in my A2091, might have to keep looking. Thanks again.

@adz

According to the part number, those should be 256k x 4 70ns chips. They should be just what you need for your 2091.

Thanks dude :-) I had a feeling they would be fine, but I felt it best to ask for some advice first, I don't really want to blow up my A2091. Thanks again.

@adz

No problem, you will need 4 chips for each 512k of ram. You can find the jumper settings at Bigbook of Amiga Hardware under the SCSI controllers.
