help with pin 38 (installing a fast ata 1200)
« on: August 29, 2004, 11:50:38 AM »
Have bought a 2nd hand Winner High Speed IDE for A1200 and the instructions are in german which isn't my mother tongue.
Have installed the card on the motherboard which is of the tupe ID4 but I don't know which is pin 38 on the IDE pins on the motherboard because I have to attach a cable from the IDE controller on it.
Can someone please help me with this problem.

First of all, don´t panic. This wire is only meant to transfer the harddrive signals to the led. I have got a Zorro4 Powerflyer with the same cable and I accidently ripped it off the card ... still works like a charm  :-)
But this pin you are looking for now. Take your A1200 in front of you wide open. On the left is the 2,5" IDE controller, two vertical rows of pins. The one you need is on the right row (side where the floppy is) the 3rd pin starting from the top  :-)

Have fun !!!

Merci!

No panic here, just wanna see if there's any speed increase now with this add on, hehe
My WinXP is starting to crash so I would like to use my A1200T for some websurfing again.

Hmmm...I have a standard PowerFlyer attached to my A1200T and the instruction manual says the LED wire should be attached to Pin 39 (not 38) on the Amiga's IDE interface.

The third down on the right side as viewed in the way described above is in fact Pin 39. (The tv modulator is directly 'above' the IDE connector and the floppy connector is over to the right.)

Pin 1 is bottom right. Pin 38 is therefore fourth down on the LEFT hand row. Maybe Pin 38 and Pin 39 do the same thing (?) but the PowerFlyer manual is VERY specific about Pin 39.

Cheers,

JaX

JaXanim : you may be correct about the pin numbers. I only remember that it has to be the third on the right starting from the top. I have had three Powerflyers so far, from which one caused killing of the motherboard due to too hard pressure from my hand ... but even then I wouldn´t want to live without one !!! It enables you to use almost any IDE device, from a DVDrom to rewriters !!! But it may be so that you have to set the speed to PIO3 and not higher because that may cause crashes and bad readings on a 68030. Don´t know for sure about higher processors ...

So in theory, pin 39 can be used to show activity of the Blizzard SCSI on the regular A1200 HD led as well, provided you wire it all up properly?
