os3.9 picasso IV with 17" LCD
« on: August 22, 2004, 06:35:01 PM »
Hallo,

I have a A4000 with picasso IV and a acer 17" LCD display.
The nativ resolution of the lcd is 1280X1024 60khz.
I try to do this resolustion with picasso96mode but all the parameters are a little bit complicate for me.
Can someone tell me how to do, box to check, true color,interlaced, double scanne......

I can get my lcd to work but the image is not perfect, I have not the right refresh rate and resolustion.

Been a while since I've played with Picasso96Mode. 1280x1024 is pushing the upper limits of the PIV.
A screen size this big requires an interlace screen. Your syncpolarity settings may be different on your monitor.
I have a 17" crt monitor & this is what I got.

Clock = 84.48MHz, Interlace checked ON
FrameSize = 1550/1070
BorderSize = 0/0
Position = 26/2
SyncSize = 64/8
SyncPolarity = both checked ON

Frequency = 55KHz/100Hz (derived from clock & framesize)

I have try a lot of different configuration but sometimes the screen is too small and other times too large oder out of sync.
I cannot fint the right parameters for my screen.
How can I know if the picassoIV is able to show a proper 1280X1024@60Hz on lcd monitor ?
I searched Technik specification about picassoIV but don't fint what i was looking for !

Thank you

Try to use a 8bit mode so you don't have to use interlaced modes (who knows, interlaced modes may cause you problems)...

Anyway 1280x1024 is too much for a Picasso4...

You are mistaken.

Best regards,
  Jope, who is running a Picasso IV at said reasolution with a 17" TFT. (8, 16 and 24-bit)

Yeah, and I tried to put my Picasso4 at 2000x1500 interlaced in my 20" Eizo and it worked but I think it's too slow (and small) for a Picasso4. I'm not saying it's impossible to have a Picasso4 at 1280x1024, but I think that it's a little slow for that...

You can't put a Picasso4 at 85Hz in 1024x768 in 16bits in non interlaced modes without overclocking it, so I hope you get my point. In contrast, my Voodoo3 gives me 1600x1200 with a sharper image without problems with decent refresh and always without interlaced...

I hope the tft monitor reduces the flicker, otherwise it'll be unusable for me (I don't care much because I don't have a TFT monitor and I already have a Voodoo3)...

Anyway, as you have got it working could you please write down your settings? It would help a lot to the person who asked the question.

A friend of mine has problems creating a 320x240 mode for his TFT so I guess he would appreciate to see your settings too.

Hmm, just increase the pixel clock to max and set the resolution to the native of the TFT.

The chip is so slow, that you're not in any danger of blowing the TFT - lucky if the refresh rates are good enough for it to sync. Mine goes down to 50Hz, so no problems there.

I'm running CGX, not P96, but the fundamentals are the same.

Thankfully the TFT isn't as fast as a monitor, so you can get away with the lame vertical refresh rates the Cirrus Logic chip gives.. I wouldn't dream of running 1280x1024 on a CRT with the PIV..

Almost any card released in the 2000s (like your voodoo) will be able to generate nice frequencies, but the PIV's chip was not top notch even when the card came out.

@lolof

You must use the monitor adjustments to make the mode
setting fit right. I always have to adjust horz/vert
centering & size on all mew screen modes.

If you value your eyes & sanity, do not use 60Hz refresh
in interlace mode. I always use 100 to 120Hz to eliminate
flicker, but then my CRT monitor can take it.

I have also try with picassoRTG.
With the "sample data", the program has received all the info automaticly from my monitor. I was able to select one of the configuration, "1280X1024X256colors", that's the max that I can with this card.
i made the screen test, alle was ok. but after I was blocked, the "continue" was grey.
I don't understans wy i was not able to save this configuration, the test was 100% OK.
It seems very difficult to have my monitor to work in nativ with this card, even 256 colors.
Is that possible with a cybervisionppc ?
oder wich graphiccard is the best for the a4000d.

Thank you
