Amiga 4000 minus zorro riser
« on: March 09, 2007, 09:39:02 PM »
Hi,

I am planning on putting together an amiga that will sit in my TV cabinet with a nice case and allow me to play games via whdload etc, i am using an amiga 4000 motherboard but want to keep the height of the unit down to a minimum, because of the spec that i need i no longer require the use of zorro cards so i want to do away with the riser.

Does any one know what i would need to allow the amiga 4000 to behave normally without the riser in place? are there pins i could connect to fool the amiga?

Thanks for your help in advance :)

Hey Nadoom,  you can run a 4000 perfectly normally without a zorro riser board in place, I've run mine before without it for testing purposes.

What an interesting idea - a flat 'pizza box' A4000! Maybe put it in an old Sun sparc case. The processor board does need a little height, so there would be enough room for a laptop IDE drive. The power supply can be turned into a giant external 'wall wort'.

An A4000 or A3000 works without the riser, so you could make a really flat machine using an A3000 main board because it doesn't need a processor board if you just want a 68030.

@hardlink

A3000 does not work without the riser.  A4000 does.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

yeah the 3000 wont do anything without the riser.

i didnt know the 4000 would though, i wish i knew that before i passed on a 4000 board with no riser.

wicked, thats great news. I couldnt test it because my A4000 is in bits at my dads place.

the idea is to use a media center box like this one (pending funding approval from the director of finances e.g. the missus) :

might have to do some modifications to it but thats all part of the fun. i want it to look perfect in a standard living room setting.

the A4000 is going to have a 030 3630 in it as power isnt the issue (like an 060 is oh so powerful:lol: ) compatability with games is the main thing, a smallish hard drive and a DVD drive i also want front joystick ports ill integrate my roboshifter so there will be 3 ports, also i want to have a scart socket at the back to connect it to my lcd tv easily and of course an integrated matx power supply (probably the long thin one from a shuttle)

ps: the a3630 is max 2cm high so is perfect for a pizza box configuration.

ill let you know how it progresses :)
