flood in Cornwall

I just saw this flood on the BBC news!
jesus! that was something! i'm glad no one was killed!

having lived through the 6.9 earthquake in LA i can tell you "Mother Nature" does what she likes and you have no say!

There was a picture of the most bedraggled and bewildered little cat in all the papers today...that was a symbol of how lucky that community was not to have lost any lives. Truly remarkable.

But it was very lucky it happened during the daytime...

A `freak` occurance that may not happen for another fifty years they say...

It was thanks to the Air Force and the Coastguard that nobody was killed.  With Sea King helicopters they rescused over a hundred people in a few hours.

These helicopters came from the same RAF and Coastguard bases (among with many other bases around the country) that the Labour Government is planning on shutting down.

Britain is getting sore from the shafting this government is giving it. And people wonder why I want to move abroad!

Exactly 52 years to the day after the last major flood to hit the town.

I have a friend who holidays there quite regularly and she's shocked to see the damage caused there.  The local economy is going to be hit quite badly.

The way the weather seems to be turning in this country, I expect this kind of thing will become more common in future :-(

Boscastle, situated on the cornish coast has steep hills and narrow gulleys surrouding it that funnel the rainwater into the river pasing through it. Normally this isn't a problem, but when a months worth of rain falls in just 2 hours, you get a truly unstoppable force.

I heard on the news that 14 or so people was reported missing? If they turn up, this should be called a miracle and RAF and the Coastguard should be given all honors. I watched the flood on the news and the strength of the flood just took me away! Those cars were drawn down like papercups by the water! :-o
