Seems that they are going to fix the thing, read more here.

Seems like a waste of money to me, surely they can build a considerably better one now?

This sounds like a job for the EU!

But seriously, looking at white dots does little for me. I'd say the money would be better spent sending man to Mars within our lifetime.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Well, why not? It's unfair to let the US taxpayer bear the burden of all of space exploration. Let the EU and the ESA pay for half, or get China and Russia in on the deal as well. The acumen would be new materials and devices invented while exploiting space.
