No Fastmem when Booting Without Startup-Sequence
« on: January 29, 2003, 08:31:47 PM »
I know my other post asked this, but I figure some may not know the current problem if they read only the title of the thread...

My real problem is when I boot my Amiga 1200 with GVP A1230 II Turbo+ (40mhz) and choose Boot without Startup-Sequence in Boot menu, programs do not see Fast mem.  I thought this was just SKick, but other programs, such as demos/games dont see it either.

So how do I make my fast memory work with a command or two?

Thanks,

Neofree

I`m just guessing , but AFAIK the program ONLY uses chip ram because it doesn`t use the MMU...

Have you tried to move the skick entry in Startup-sequence to just above the  IPrefs command...
Perhaps, you`ll just have to put up with it untill you get the REAL thing...

Anybody have any knowledge on Skick?

I read SKick's doc today to be sure.  It will use fastmem automatically before using chip memory, if available.

I will try repositioning my command, maybe that will do it.  Maybe if that works I will make a short Startup-Sequence for the games I want to run too...

Not all cards support autoconfig and need a command to add fast memory to the system. Look in your Startup-Sequence to see what this command is, if your card is like that.

Boot without startup-sequence.

Type Setpatch, if it reboots, choose no startup-sequence again and type Setpatch again until you get back to the CLI.

Type Avail to see if your Fastmem is there.

If not type BindDrivers and check again, BindDrivers is usually used to bind expansion hardware that does not auto-config to device drivers in the Expansion drawer.

As KennyR said it might also be a custom driver setup program instead though. I don't know because I don't have one of those boards, I have only used Apollos and Blizzards.
