Picasso96 with CyberstormPPC?
« on: July 13, 2004, 11:06:35 PM »
Hi, Folks!

I'm trying to track down hard to find grafics errors
with some of my applications. So I considered using
P96 instead of my well proven Cybergrafix system.
(cgxsystem.library v42.7)

Has anyone tried to run the Picasso96 gfx driver using
a CyberstormPPC card yet? In the aminet archive there
are no drivers for the PPC version.

Greetings,

Scholle

IIRC, P96 has no CybervisionPPC support..

(edit, mixed up some Cybergfx stuff..)

Hi! What GFX card are you using? As long as the GFX card itself is supported by P96, it will work fine regardless of accelerator type. I have a CyberstormPPC with a Prometheus/Voodoo 3 and it works perfect with P96.

Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Aeh, I should have said it's a CyberVisionPPC on an
CyberstormPPC...

So chances are bad, right?

@Scholle

Well...

A CVisionPPC driver for Picasso96 does exist but AFAIK it's only available to OS4 betatesters at present.

Affraid so. I don't think drivers exist.

Hi scholle

your gfx corruption problems, are probably overheating related.

Put at least a 40 mm fan on the Permedia.

Are you using the picture.datatype of 3.9? or the 43.xx bundled with CGX?

Ciao

Hi, Framiga!

Thx for your hint, but I don't think the error is heat
related. It's rather a strange effect than flickering
or distortion of the display:

I was never able to use AmigaWriter2.2 with correct zoom
factor. The display automatically switches to a
value between 600% and 700%, which makes documents pratically unreadable. Regardless what is entered as zoom factor, the factor value and display of the text blow up like a ballon:

choice (%)               result (%)

100                        700

25                         625

50                         650

75                         675

90                         690

125                        725

150                        750

200                        600

400                        600

full page                  683

full width                 756

Printer resolution         420

The effect is visible even with the example document
Features_V2.20. The other example documents are displayed
correctly, until the zoom factor is changed. The guys
from H&P said it was the display preferences, where you
measure the correct resolution using the size of a 3,5"
floppy disk. The window showing the disk size has correct
size, but the values for width and height are much big.
I tried to play around with the size of the floppy image
window and the size values, but it helped nothing. I also reinstalled the program several times, with the same effect.

My other problem is the game Descent Freespace. I was never
able to play it, displaying the title screen after the preferences section it got stuck, often even before I could
see any output.

I asked some H&P guys at the OS4 presentation about it. Mr.
Haage meant it could be the wizard.library, for it is used
by both programs. I reinstalled it (version 42.100), but it
didn't helped. Neither did the disabling of system patches/hacks.

OS is AmigaOS3.9, on an A4000.

The error is so old, and I'm quite frustrated, because I
think I looked everywhere now. I have also reinstalled all
important fonts, disabled font caching and so on. Noone
else seems to have the error, and the support of real coders from H&P is zero. They seem to have left H&P, they
just do sales & distribution now. I also reported the error to the mailing list, same result. So my last bet would be
a rare bug within CGX, but it seems I have to wait for OS4.
And theres no guarantee that the error would be gone then.

It's an evil feeling having spent money for products that are not usable...

Greetings,

Scholle
