PCMCIA A1200 reset problems
« on: July 15, 2004, 06:48:48 PM »
My A1200 won't boot with a LAN card attatched.  Software
fixes are no use as no hard drive activity takes place.
Ordered a reset fix board from Power Computing and it
turned out to be Power Flyer specific.  I am ready to start
snipping away at pins if i knew the right ones...

I am using a Blizzard 1260 66 with 64MB,OS 3.9, 4 way IDE
splitter, IOblix on the clock port, internal scan
doubler.

HELP!!!
A1200 Power Tower, Blizzard 1260 66 +32MB, OS3.9, 2.5\\" HD, IDEfix97 + DVD-RW + Zip, SD/FF + 15\\" CRT, Ioblix1200P + scanner, PCMCIA LAN + router

IMO the best solution would be to get a different LAN card, but that depends on how comfortable you are snipping and soldering at your Amiga.

Hi!

Well, I honestly don't think a hardware fix can help either. The (regular) hardware fix will only bypass the reset signal. That means that if the Amiga boots the card is reconized immediately. And in your case it even that the Amiga won't boot. Odd!

My suggestion is that you boot the Amiga, without the network card and as soon as the Amiga is booted, you insert the card. See what happens then!
I know it's a sin, but this was the only way for me the let my Amiga reconize the card. Sometimes it did'nt even reconized it at once, so I had to re-insert the card again.

See if works. If your Amiga freezes when you insert the card i suggest a different card.

If it DOES work, you can contact me for a regular hardware fix. I use to supply these for "various" Amiga suppliers.

I had a simular problem with my A1200 but after uppgrading from a 50W PSU to a 200W PSU that problem was solved. :)

Thanks for your suggestion gents, but

SUCCESS!!!

After a second look at the "Power flyer specific"
hardware fix, i realised that it was universal, i
simply couldn't get at Gayle because of the scandoubler
socket on Alice.  I snipped off the wires from the
socket and with shaking hands soldered them directly
to Alice, thus freeing up space around Gayle, ready
to take Power Computing's hardware fix.  Result -
system now boots with LAN card in place.  I still
can't test broadband until my town gets switched on
a week today, but i'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Lurkist.

Wow, you soldered the SD wires?  I would have thought the PCMCIA fix would be easier to solder on.  I got one of those boards and it never worked.  I just use the card reset module with BlizKick.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(
