Anyone using Algor + Norway?
« on: July 14, 2004, 05:36:11 PM »
I'm thinking about the above combo, especially to save a slot in my A4000D.
Does anyone else use this combo?
What do you think to the price/performance comparison to say using PCI boards? [I have a mediator] or the X-surf II?

Finally, anyone recommend a good place to get the pair?

Hi Cyberus

which others Zorro cards, have you installed?

Algor has some problems with PIV (easy fixable).

Bye

Hi framiga,

At the moment, I only have a Fastlane Z3 in there. I have a Picasso II lying around, but I think I will get a PCI graphics card.

I am completely building up the system from scratch , so I haven't decided on what cards I will get, except PCI graphics and sound cards.

Thanks

I've used the combo, they work well. The Algor also has additional features like flashram.

Where to get? I definately have at least one norway in stock, but I'd have to check to see if I have any Algor left.

As you have Mediator you do not have to buy expensive Zorro cards!

For lower price you can have faster PCI equivalents.

Instead of X-Surf you can have RTL8139 Fast Ethernet. It costs few EUR only.
Instead of Algor you can have much faster Spider USB 2.0 PCI card.

SpiderUSB support USB2 Highspeed Mode (480Mbps) where Algor only support USB2 Fullspeed (12Mbps). So in theory at least, the Spider will be much faster.

@Brian

Problem is that you can't buy anything for "in theory"  :-P
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

True that but it's just as in theory my internet connection can handle 10Mbps but in reality it's not been above 8Mbps... it's still a better connection than with a 56Kbps modem even if some sites will be just as slow on both connections.
