Xetec Fastcard Plus and general A2000 help needed
« on: June 24, 2004, 07:46:56 PM »
I bought a Xetec Fastcard Plus on EBay...no manual..
I checked Amiga-hardware and AmigaHardware database but
no info on the jumpers etc..
The machine keeps GURU'ing and rebooting
Does anyone have any info on this card??

Also, can someone tell me why I can't install OS 3.9 ??
I've installed a 3.1 rom. The machine runs great on
OS 3.1 but when I try to install OS 3.9 I get the GURU.
Software failier.........
Will OS 3.9 run on an A2000 ??

As always.. any help will be greatly appreciated

Ummm...... someone must know something
about these things ??

I'm guessing its a ram address problem but I
don't know how to solve it.
Does anyone know where I can get a PDF file
on the manual ??

First a question: What size harddrive are you using?

I could never get our FastCard+ to work with HS's much over 200MB. For a couple of years I booted our old A2000 from a Zip external SCSI drive.

Didn't OS 3.5 or 3.9 rewrite how the OS treated HD's? Perhaps this is not compatible with the Xetec's drive device.

Jumpers: J1 in the upper left corner of the card (next to the SIMM sockets) is for the HD led connector.

JP 1, 2, & 3 are below and a little to the right. These set the device number for the SCSI controller. Default is #7 with all three jumpered.

#0 O(pen)OO
#1 OOJ(umpered)
#2 OJO
#3 OJJ
#4 JOO
#5 JOJ
#6 JJO

The other group are labeled. I asume you have Autoboot jumpered. The others are for RAM.

Count/Size/Ram Enabled
O /     O /   J           = 1 meg SIMMS in slots 1 & 2
J  /    O /   J           = 1 meg SIMMS in slots 1 thru 4
O  /    J  /  J           = 4 meg SIMMS in slots 1 & 2

Hope this helps!
Best,

Bob Kennedy

HERE is a manual for the A500 version. The jumpers are likely to be similar, hopefully this helps.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Have you made the emergency boot floppy?  I believe that is the first option after you start the installer.  I think one is supposed to make the floppy to boot up with, then you can format the boot partition and install OS 3.9 from the cd that way.
