Custom A1200 060 system
« on: February 12, 2004, 01:24:32 PM »
Hello there, I am looking for advice on how much I can expect to sell my unfinished custom A1200 project for.  I have modified a thin rack mountable 3Com switch to house an A1200, a laptop CDROM drive and an accellerator card inside.  Yes the screw threads are intact so if you can find some brackets you can put it in a rack :-)

At the moment the mobo is bolted down and has a securing bracket to hold in an accellerator card, I have used both a Blizzard 030 and 060, with the 1230SCSI device attached.  At the moment it has a 1260 and both memory slots are filled (48mb of RAM I think) and it all fits no problem.  I have a laptop CDROM drive mounted in place and it works, and is attached to an IDE interface as well as a 6GB laptop HDD.  There is no floppy drive at the moment, although I do have 2 slimline PC floppy drives which I haven't got round to fitting. It will also come with a Scan doubler and flicker fixer mounted on the mobo.

I have a PC mouse and keyboard adaptor as well as in IR keyboard with a mouse joystick which works well, It has a prelude sound card but I haven't mounted the audio backplate yet.

The only major work required to finish this off is the back plate, as I couldn't mount the mobo at the back of the case because the CDROM wouldn't have fit, so you would need to wire up cable extensions to the back.

The Amiga will boot into OS3.9 happily and has 3.1 ROMS, its a 1D4 revision board and additionally has the PCMCIA CC_RESET fix applied by Eyetech so you can use the CNET PCMCIA LAN card with it, which I have and there is a hole in the side so you can use it :-)

History:
This Amiga has been with me a great many years, starting out as a std A1200 bought for christmas, was upgraded with an 030 then an 060, was in an Amiga Tower case with a Zorro expansion and Cybervision643D.  It has seen me through some great times and some great games, Zeewolf 1&2, Cannon fodder, James Pond 2, Elite2, Hired Guns, Dungeon Master 1&2, AB3D 1 & 2, to name but a few.
It was the first machine I used on the internet, I was hooked up with an uber fast 56k modem giving me 160-300 ping which I used to kick many an arse at Amiga Quake TFC as a HWG using my alta ego UziLover :-D

I am reluctant to part with it to be honest, but I just don't use it any more :-(
Cheers,

John Newman

Ok I'm thinking about £200 for the lot, idealy I would like someone to come round and take it away, if so I also have an all metal Power Tower with another working A1200 in it with a Blizzard 1230 & ANOTHER 1230 SCSI kit you can have with it! :)

So you could either carry on with this project, or just put the A1200 & 1260 into the power tower and have a pretty decent Amiga system, ready to plug into any PC monitor!
Cheers,

Ok, I live in Bracknell so I would have to post it, the tower case would be a problem as I have no box but if you just want the project A1200 then I should be able to send it to ya.  Unless you fancy a long drive :)

My first buyer has dropped off the face of the Internet so this is still up for grabs. JJ has first refusal though!

Ok my buyer has got back to me so it looks like this is provisionally sold, but I'll keep you posted.

Odin: Haven't been in there in years! Its such a shame everone switched to Q3 Fortress, it was never as good as the original Quake TF!

Yea personally I think it plays alot better, plus Half-Life is a closer relation to Quake :)
