Sorry to act "dumb"... but why the need to emulate an amiga within an amiga? (apart from kickdown to run old games, etc)..

Or am i barking up the wrong tree?

It is both possible and desirable to emulate and Amiga on an Amiga. I have found UAE to be more compatible with my software than my real Amigas .

There's plenty of old games & demos that are timed for a stock 68000, and go berserk on higher clock speeds ;-)

I had to use UAE on my A3000 a lot if I wanted to play some older games. The cool thing about it to ois the latest build even supported AGA emulation. So with a graphics card amiga you could play AGA games on a non AGA amiga. I dont think its very good on a non PPC system though.

That's true, it absolutely crawls on an 060/66 with native chipset emulation. Not at all useful IMHO. What it needs really is an 680x0 emulation core similar to that used by Fusion/Shapeshifter which would allow it to run much faster...

That will never happen with UAE.

You might want to take a look at WHDLoad for this.

As well as compatibility, another useful reason for running old games through emulation is because most old games locked up the rest of a system, and would require a reboot afterwards.

These days it's much better to be able to run a game without having to shut down other applications or reboot, and UAE lets you do that.

Yes, I'm well aware of WHDLoad and similar systems - they're still flakey and cause problems requiring a reboot a lot of the time if you want to go back to normal applications. I know it'll never happen with UAE due to the very nature of the project, but it would be nice . . .

/me considers starting a new programming project ;)
