Boot disk?
« on: May 08, 2004, 02:08:48 PM »
Hello,

I have just obtained an old amiga 500 computer to add to my small collection of 70's and 80's home computers.  Trouble is that it came without a boot disk.  It asks for v1.3 disk.

Can anyone assist me with this problem or point to a source on the internet that I can obtain this boot disk?

Also I assume that one can use the floppy in a PC to make this disk once an image is obtained?

Many thanks for your assistance.

Mark

I had this problem too.

Pc drives can't write Amiga disks. You'll have to get someone with an Amiga to write these disks for you, or buy them on ebay. It'll be the cheapest option

It asks for the Workbench Disk. But actually, the OS allready has been load, so you can use most software without Workbench.
Having an Amiga 500 and enjoying it :-D  :-D  :-D

Since you do not have a Workbench disk, the only way to get adf's on floppy is by buying a "Catweasel" disk-controller. This also supports floppies for all kinds of systems like the C=64, MSX, Atari, and many other disk formats. Otherwise, obtain a Workbench disk plus 'Amiga explorer' from Cloanto (there's also a freeware alternative on Aminet, but you have to have AmigaBasic, wich I did not have, so I did not test it.)

Hi Mark,
I am a newbie here too :(

I made a copy of my workbench boot disk 1.3;  but I don't know how to rename it to the original bootdisk name. it says copy (2) of workbench 1.3   I don't know if this copy is right allthe time or whether there is a better way to backup the main disk, but it seems to work okay, though.
Where do you live?

If you wish you can mail me a blank copy or DD disk and the cost of shipping and handling for it and I will send it back to you or perhaps we can trade a program.

I bought an A500 in Ebay but certain keys are sort of doomed on the keyboard and don't work right until I tap them hard.  Some games won't load at all, with missing disks etc. I wish sellers be truly honest and describe what does not really work etc :(

Click the icon once and choose "rename" from the menu.
