Is there a port of a 3d engine in the works?

I've been looking at Crystal Space and it looks great. It seems to support every platform but Amiga, which is hardly surprising.

I've also had a look over at things like Dark Basic, which allows you to program games in Basic, which would be ideal for newbies. Its Windows only.

Also while I was at it, I have come across RealBasic(of Mac fame), which is a cross platform application development environment based on Visual Basic 6. It also is capable of producing 3d games according to its website.

All the above would be magnificent tools to port to OS4 and MorphOS.

There are also numerous other cross platform toolkits out there.

We need software and we need it quickly when OS4 is released and this would be one way. I give Basic as an example as I would imagine that would be the quickest way for non-super-techies to get involved in rejuvinating the platform, even if it was only for prototyping purposes.

Should we organise a petition to get these great tools ported?

What are your picks?

And how might we go about influencing the relevant parties for a port?

We need more users, and then we need more business apps first. The rest will follow once this is in place. I do agree that these tools would make a good adition to the MOS/OS4 software library though.

If you had an application development platform like RealBasic ported then you would get more apps and more games.

Then with more Apps and Games you will get more users.

Isn't it better to have tools first to make the apps and games to get the new users?

Hmmmm. PureBasic seems to be the answer. Even for writing applications.

"Frederic Laboureur has been working on a Blitz-like successor, called PureBasic. You can find out more about it from the PureBasic homepage, but to put it simply, it is a BASIC language with all the features of Blitz (and hardly any of the problems) for 68k and PPC (using WarpOS) Amigas, Windows and Linux (running on Intel x86 and clones). Not only can you create GUI programs in 6kB or less, but it is also suitable for games. The best part about this language is that if you stick to the (extensive) built in commands, your source can be fully compatible between versions requiring you to only recompile the program to have versions which run on Amiga, Windows and Linux. Kick ass!"

The main features of PureBasic
   - Easy and high quality 3D support based on OGRE
