iMP (BBC online)
« on: May 03, 2004, 07:04:14 PM »
Hum,
i`ve just read that "Later this month, the BBC will launch a pilot project that could lead to all television programmes being made available on the internet. (edit - yes!)
Viewers will be able to scan an online guide and download any show. Programmes would be viewed on a computer screen or could be burned to a DVD and watched on a television set.
By launching iMP, the BBC hopes to avoid being left at the mercy of a software giant such as Micro$oft, which could try to `control` the gateway to online television..."

This is great news, er, for me anyway... :-)

As long as BBC don't continue offering video streams as Realplayer format. It's best to escape proprietary formats completely.

Yeah, if only BBC would get off their arse and finish the new Dr. Who. Of course, by the time it get's here, I'll be 55. :-?

I presume this will be free? The BBC being a public service and all. NRK in Norway already does this (albeit not each and every program but still a lot), a commercial station, TV2, also has streaming programs but you have to buy a subscription for that :-/.
