What happened to the OpenOffice Amiga Port?
« on: January 11, 2003, 08:08:19 PM »
Hi Amigans

What happened to the OpenOffice Port for the Amiga
that was startet some months ago?
Has it gone the same fate as Mozilla for Amiga?

BTW why not do a port of CHIMERA (MAC/LINUX) browser to Amiga OS4?

Bye Manou

To my knowledge yes, the OpenOffice port went the same route as the Mozilla port.   Neither are really being developed.

Are you offering to help port some of these programs?

As a (former) member of the AmigaOffice-team, I can only say this:

Four to five real developers plus a dozen wannebes is far from
enough for such a monster.  :-(
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Hello
If a company invest money on Open Source software development for AmigaOS / AmigaDE platform, can they recover the money? Who will buy and pay for the software?

Another obstacle: Most contract software house REFUSED to do the job, because they don't have any programmer familiar with Amiga platform. The programmer refused to learn about Amiga platform, because lack of books and manuals.

Hi Sidewinder

No I have no time to program.
The last programming language (except HTML) I used was in the late 80 beginning 90, but never did something with GUI.
Sorry no help here.
