Durring the 80's the C64 was in regular use as a military weapon. It was perfect as a rugged combat computer.

The PDA thing is something I have been thinking about, there are lots of companies building such devices. I have some concerns about carring such things into combat.  Increasing the potential of badguys getting hold of the device and it's content.  A way to make it self distruct, if the user gets killed,  would put me more at ease. To jepordize the mission or other team members lives for a PDA Hmmm!

Just my thoughts

As late as 1995 the U.S. Military was using custom cartridge based C64's for marksmanship trainers.

The simulation center of the War College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas used a bunch of high end A3000's to run AV sims until at least around the same time. I used to check the surplus sales for them. (I understand that some of their stuff was ported to Linux in the last couple of years.)

At least the Amiga OS has never brought a Destroyer to a dead halt in the ocean like a devide by zero error under Windows did a year or two ago. :-o
Best,

I hope government weapons arent safeguarded by Windows computers otherwise they will all go off sooner or later when it crashes!
