There's a lot of this going on, eg. just recently someone set up a DroidArcadia channel for something completely unrelated to that emulator. Plenty of other examples I could give too.
It is probably deliberate because it only takes 5 minutes to do a quick search on Google or wherever to see if a name is already in use :-(
